Bengali does not use grammatical gender. Pronouns follow a similar system to that of English and the verbs are highly inflected, meaning that they change based on the corresponding grammatical case. The primary stress in the pronunciation of words is placed on the first syllable, with secondary stress being placed on each subsequent odd-numbered syllable. The word order of Bengali is SOV, or subject, object then verb.
