Arum had the idea to create Coffee Meets Bagel in 2011, and the following year Kang quit her job at JPMorgan to launch the app with Arum and Soo. 'It just felt natural,' Kang says. Today’s interview features two dating coaches turned dating sociologists, Yue Xu and Julie Krafchick. Yue and Julie are the hosts of Dateable, one of the top podcasts about dating, love, and sex. Even though we’ve been at it for a little while, we’re all still figuring out how to date during COVID-19.

In February 2019, Coffee Meets Bagel acknowledged that an attacker had stolen 'a partial list of user details, specifically names and email addresses', between late 2017 and mid-2018. Outside reporting indicated that as many as 6,174,513 accounts may have been affected, and that other details including age and gender may have been taken as well.[11]

Features[edit]

Features of the Coffee Meets Bagel app include limiting the number of profiles users can interact with each day and offering ice-breaker information for matches.[12][13] In 2020, Coffee Meets Bagel added video virtual speed dating in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.[14]
